General Health Benefits
Studies have proven that having contact with a pet is very calming and soothing, and have backed up this conjecture with medical facts. Vital signs taken after an individual’s interaction with a pet show positive effects on the blood pressure, pulse, and breathing frequency, and the results of these tests are surprisingly similar to the body’s condition after deep meditation. Some studies have even indicated that having pets reduces stress and results in a lowered risk of heart disease.
The warmth of their furry bodies and open, purring friendship can drastically influence a person’s state of mind for the better. A study conducted in the states of New York, Missouri, and Texas found that nursing homes that allowed pets had lower medication costs than those that didn’t.

2. Cats use a litter box.
This is a perfectly wonderful feature about cats that can't be beat! You never have to get up at 5 A.M. to go "walk the cat". Or find kitty doo doo on your front greeting rug. Cats know when they have to go, and they go do it in the proper receptacle. And then, when they are done, they cover it up! What could be better? They like to keep things neat and clean, and I find that simply charming. All you have to do is poop-scoop twice a day and wash out your litter pan with soap and water every week or so. Life is good!

3. Cats are self-cleaning.
Cats are no stress, you just leave them to themselves and they take care of everything. No grooming or bathing necessary. They keep themselves neat and clean and are fastidious about grooming themselves. Cats do shed seasonally, but overall, not as much as dogs.

4. Cats are easy.
With a cat, you can easily have a quick overnight trip without worrying if they will run out of food and water. You can fill up a couple bowls of each, and when you return the next day, you will find that they ate what they needed, not the whole bowl full just because it was there.

5. The Humane Socity of America estimates that 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized by shelters each year.
